Phone game teaches table manners

Cell phones have infiltrated every aspect of daily life. They get particularly tiresome in public restrooms, movie theaters and at the dinner table. One fed up blogger came up with his own solution: the phone stacking game. The object of the game is to rid meal time from technology interventions and actually have a conversation. The rules are easy; when out to lunch or dinner, participants stack their cell phones at the center of the table. The first to look at their phone loses and has to pick up the bill for the table.

This could absolutely be applied at home as well. Simply have your family stack their phones before dinner starts and if anyone looks at the pile they lose and have to do the dishes or some other task after dinner. If no one looks everyone wins by spending quality time together.

I have a big family and am just imagining one rogue text from a phone set on vibrate sending the whole stack tumbling. Maybe we’d be better off just turning them all over screen side down. Either way I think we’ll give it a shot.
