During April – National Donate Life Month – organ, eye and tissue donor registries nationwide, including Kansas Organ and Tissue Donor Registry, hope to add 20 million new donors to their rolls.
In addition to having the “heart” icon on your driver’s license or carrying a signed donor card, Kansas Organ and Tissue Donor Registry now allows you to give your legal authorization, securely and online, to become an organ, eye and tissue donor. The registry ensures your wishes will be honored when you die.
Through organ donation, you can save as many as eight lives, enhance another 50 through tissue donation, give renewed vision to two people and change the lives of millions through disease research and therapy. Every donation counts because, at any given time, thousands of Kansans are waiting for a much-needed organ or tissue transplant.
No matter your age or medical history, you can decide to become a donor. Your medical condition at the time of death determines what organs and tissues can be donated. Kansas citizens 18 and older may make their first-person authorization through the Kansas Organ & Tissue Donor Registry.
If you’d like to register as a donor, visit the Kansas Organ and Tissue Donor Registry’s website and click the link to join the registry, or call Midwest Transplant Network at 913-262-1668.
