Getting a diagnosis of breast cancer can be overwhelming. Many patients don’t know much about the disease or how to choose a treatment plan that’s right for them.
Misty Frank was 30 when she was diagnosed with a triple-negative ductal carcinoma, a highly aggressive form of breast cancer.
She was new to Wichita so a friend suggested Via Christi Clinic where Misty met nurse navigator Terri Leschuk and breast cancer specialist Patty Tenofsky, MD, FACS.
As a nurse navigator, Terri’s job is to guide patients and their families through the journey of breast cancer diagnosis and treatment. She outlines everything the patient will experience and helps coordinate their individualized plan of care — including planning appointments with specialists and scheduling tests and surgeries.
“My primary role is to put each of our patients through the system on the fast track, so they have minimal waiting time while receiving the best possible care,” Terri says.
