The toy box survival guide

Keeping kids entertainedMy older sister recently came to town, bringing with her my 6-year-old niece, Victoria and 3-year-old nephew, Alexander. While I love having them visit, my house doesn’t have many activities to keep them entertained. My solution: create a small toy box that I could easily bring out, whenever they came over.

My shopping strategy was simple. — keep it simple.

 Aunt Kim’s toy box list:

  • Two coloring books
  • Two sets of crayons (so they don’t fight over the blue crayon)
  • A doll
  • Costume jewelry
  • A race car
  • A dinosaur
  • Sidewalk chalk
  • 1 medium- sized red ball
  • Building blocks
  • A bottle of bubbles

Over all, my best buy was the $1 red ball, which kept Victoria and Alexander quite entertained, followed by the bubbles and sidewalk chalk.

As my sister’s children get older, I plan to add different activities into the basket.

But for now, I think I have a good running start.
