Teething painMany of us have heard medical “old wives’ tales,” myths that have carried on through the years. We asked Adam Goodwin, MD, a family physician with Via Christi Clinic, to tackle one of the more popular medical myths.

Does brandy help soothe baby teething pain?

Alcohol is not safe in any dose for infants or children.

If your child is having teething pain, I would recommend using teething rings. Another good idea is to try something cold like a wet washcloth that’s been in the freezer for a little while. Some parents use topical numbing medications such as Anbesol or Orajel.

Use caution when using these as they can numb an infant’s gagging reflex if the medication is swallowed. It’s best to check with your doctor before using these medications.

Our little one was much to young to fit and handle a teethwr ring.our friends reccommend teething mittens and they worked beautiful. My lo loves to chew them. I got them from http://www.etsy.com/shop/easybreazybaby

Another great thing we did was freeze water into the tip of pacifiers. Worked great for freezing the mouth
