Berries – Summer’s healthy treat

Berries Whether it’s strawberries, raspberries, blackberries or blueberries, summer is the time to enjoy healthy, fresh berries.

They’re chock full of vitamins, minerals and fiber, yet are low in calories – about 50-60 calories a cup. And you can enjoy them for about the same price as a carton of ice cream.

Here are some healthy ways to include berries in your diet..

  • Top a small serving of berries — about a half cup (30 calories) — with a ping pong-sized mound of light whipped cream (15 calories).
  • Slice fresh berries in a small bowl and top with a tablespoon of granola or crushed whole grain cereal.
  • Freeze over-ripe berries in an air-tight container, then blend frozen berries with skim milk and vanilla for a cool, summer treat.
