Whether it’s strawberries, raspberries, blackberries or blueberries, summer is the time to enjoy healthy, fresh berries.
They’re chock full of vitamins, minerals and fiber, yet are low in calories – about 50-60 calories a cup. And you can enjoy them for about the same price as a carton of ice cream.
Here are some healthy ways to include berries in your diet..
- Top a small serving of berries — about a half cup (30 calories) — with a ping pong-sized mound of light whipped cream (15 calories).
- Slice fresh berries in a small bowl and top with a tablespoon of granola or crushed whole grain cereal.
- Freeze over-ripe berries in an air-tight container, then blend frozen berries with skim milk and vanilla for a cool, summer treat.
